Bank Holiday weekend & beyond

Going into the weekend the weather forecasts were all doom and gloom, so needless to say, it wasn’t too bad after all. Saturday brighter and drier than Sunday, Sunday very windy (they forecast 25 mph winds but they were nearer double that) and it was mainly dry, then Monday it was grey and damp getting wetter as the day went on. Needless to say Saturday was domestic chores day, except for a trip to the local bike shop for the annual MOT pilgrimage. Another pass with flying colours. Saturday evening we were out for a meal at the Kings Head in Bonsal with folks from the Deauville Owners UK forum. A very pleasant meal with equally pleasant company.

Sunday morning I was up and out of the house bright and early, off on the bike for the DOUK ride-out through Derbyshire. This was the route that I’d arranged (Allan sorted accommodation and evening meal, Steve the BBQ). Starting from Cromford Mill we rode across to Hartington, up to Longnor, through Buxton, to a photo stop overlooking Fernilee Reservoir, then through Whaley Bridge to Glossop for a lunch break before riding down the Snake Pass to Chatsworth, then Chesterfield for the wonky spire before returning across Wooley Moor to Matlock and a BBQ at the Sycamore Inn. Only ended up doing the last couple of miles in the rain but the high winds did make riding the Peaks and Snake Pass very interesting (as in, a bit of a challenge). Still, everybody got round the 200 miles route unscathed and undamaged, which is the real bonus and everybody appears to have enjoyed themselves, including the first timers.

Mark has his last exam today (Friday 30th May) to end his first year at university. Apparently yesterday’s exam didn’t go too well so we just have to hope that he did well enough to get the grade he’s after. He has a load of driving lessons booked for next week as having passed his driving Theory Test he’s now got a date for the driving test in a week’s time.

Mum & Dad appear to be OK at the moment with no major dramas or crisis over the last week. We are all looking forward to Angie and John coming up for a BBQ in a couple of weekend’s time to celebrate Andy’s 21st birthday.
